I know this is a little off from the main topics of this site (fashion, business casual attire, etc..., but there is a strong connection between today's politics in California and the corporate world.

Today the primary elections in California were won by two corporate giants' ex-CEOs.

Carly Fiorina - former CEO of Hewlett Packard (HP) and Meg Whitman - former CEO of eBay.

Some would think that coming from a corporate world, they would know about financials, controlling spending, profitability and be able to prevent CA from going bankrupt.

That's where Californians proved to be the ones screwing up their future, by being ignorant and being brainwashed by the media.

    Here's why:

    1. They both spend record amounts of dollars to finance their campaigns.

There's no problem that they had the money to spend (theirs or others that donated).
However, it is a glimpse into the lack of control in spending for the years to come, from the state budget.
Afterall they need to recoup the money they personally spent. And it shows that no matter how high the amount of money it costs to get what they want, will never stop them.
Drive? Maybe... Recklessness? Definitely... Shopping spree? For sure!

    2. Neither of them have any experience in politics.

Politics is perceived mostly about corruption or honesty. Sure, it is, couldn't agree more.
But more importantly is about getting around the alliances, political groups, lobbyists, etc, Making deals, compromises TO GET THINGS DONE.

Our current president, Mr. Obama is a well educated man, successful, very successful, incredibly driven. He seems to be honest and care for the greater good. Mr. Obama seems to have good intentions too.

However...without the intimate, first hand knowledge of the political game his progress sputtered. Without a long political career (very young as a politician at that level) or the family history in politics, he could not carry his young enthusiasm and energy. He faced the tough reality of already corrupt politicians, political alliances, even his own democrats let him down.
I tip my hat to him for getting as far as he did (even with the terrible compromises he had to make), but boy he had a big surprise. Had no idea how deep and way over his head he'll be. Lack of experience!

Californians, did you want your state to be ran by inexperienced politicians? Apparently you did, since you voted for Carly and Meg!

You did not learn anything from Arnold's mandate (at least he is married to a Kennedy - quite some experience in that family and Arnold had balls of steel).

    3. They were both fired from their big CEO jobs!

That's right - fired! No body "resigns" from a multi-million dollar job!

If they couldn't survive the political environment of a few thousand employees, how can they survive the political field of MILLIONS of Californians?

If they weren't trusted to handle the future of a few thousand employees, how could you trust them to handle the future of MILLIONS of Californians?

If they hadn't have a vision good enough for a few thousand employees, how could you trust them with the vision for the world's 5th largest economy?

Not trusted with a few hundred of millions revenue for a corporation, but you trust them with BILLIONS of dollars in tax-payers' money?

How stupid of a mistake was to elect them?!?!?!

Well, what's done, it's done. At least they're Republicans and not socialists (the only good thing about them being elected, that I can think of).

Good job Californians... I used to be proud of you for your energy and drive yet relaxed and laid back style, for the weirdness and the innocence of dreamers and the hollywoodians, for the mixed cultural background, for some of the best and most innovative companies in the world.

I should move to Arizona, at least they have the courage to say "we want to abide by and enforce our laws"! It may be one of the few American states left that true to AMERICAN values...

Let's hope next time at least you vote for a REAL CEO, not one that got fired. Steve Jobs anyone?
